Turkish activists arrive at West Bank border’s after detention

(MENAFN) A group of Turkish activists, who had been unlawfully detained by Israel aboard the Gaza-bound Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla, reached the King Hussein (Allenby) Bridge crossing between the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Jordan on Tuesday to return to Türkiye.

The activists had been held at Ketziot Prison in southern Israel and were transported to the border in prison transfer vehicles.

Israeli naval forces had intercepted and seized vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla starting Wednesday, detaining over 470 activists from more than 50 countries. The flotilla had sought to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza while challenging Israel’s longstanding blockade of the territory.

Israel has maintained the blockade of Gaza, which is home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli military actions have reportedly resulted in over 67,100 Palestinian deaths in the enclave, most of them women and children, leaving the area largely uninhabitable.
