Turkish FM to Represent Erdogan at First Board of Peace Meeting
Sources indicate that Fidan will emphasize the importance of continued efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue and reiterate Türkiye’s support for initiatives aimed at achieving this goal. He is also expected to highlight the need for Israel to halt ceasefire violations and remove obstacles to the steady and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid.
At the meeting, Fidan is anticipated to affirm Türkiye’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to Gaza and express readiness to contribute to reconstruction efforts. He is further expected to stress Türkiye’s willingness to participate in international mechanisms designed to protect the rights and security of Palestinians in Gaza, while calling for urgent action against Israeli pressures in the West Bank, the expansion of illegal settlements, and settler violence.
Additionally, Fidan is likely to reiterate Türkiye’s support for a two-state solution. President Erdogan previously confirmed the invitation for the Gaza Peace Board meeting during his return flight from Ethiopia, noting that Fidan would represent Türkiye.
The Board of Peace was formally established on January 22, when representatives from 19 countries signed its charter on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with additional states joining the initiative afterward. The forum aims to advance peacemaking efforts in the Gaza Strip and promote global peace initiatives. Its first meeting at the leadership level is scheduled for February 19 in Washington, DC, with Moscow confirming it will not participate, according to reports.
