Gunfight Breaks Out Near Israeli Consulate in Istanbul

(MENAFN) A gunfight erupted between police and armed individuals near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, Türkiye, on Tuesday, according to reports. The consulate, which has been closed and unstaffed for months, may not have been the primary target.

Reports indicate that multiple police units arrived at the scene around 12:15 PM local time. One of the assailants, armed with long-barreled weapons, was killed, while two others were captured after sustaining injuries. Two police officers were also wounded during the confrontation.

Since the Israeli consulate is not operational, initial assessments suggest that the attack may have been directed at the Turkish police, who maintain a heavily armed presence in the area, according to reports.
